Learning to Drive!

Finally, I’m ready to take off! I’m on the road and I’m really amazed at how easy this RV is to drive. The real test will be when I get to the mountains and see what it does on a steep incline. On the open straight road, it is a dream to drive. One day I’m actually driving and come to an incline and move over to pass a semi. About ¾ of the way up I start slowing down and that same semi passes me, laughing as he goes by. Just a small reminder that I’m not in my car anymore!

Later that week as I’m driving along HWY 1 in Oregon (narrow, curvy, hilly roads) I realize that there are many people that don’t know how to drive on those types of roads or how to be courteous to other drivers. Such as pulling over and letting faster cars pass you or shifting to a lower gear on curves or hills/mountains. Yes, even some automatic vehicles are able to shift down to lower gears. If you don’t know how, check your owner’s manual or on the internet.

When I headed up to the Big Horns the incline was really steep, and it was a true test of what my RV could do. I was really glad that I was able to shift down to a lower gear as it helped to get us up the incline (along with some encouraging words which I’m sure helped!) When we came down out of the Big Horns in a snowstorm I was once again very glad I could shift down into lower gears to get us safely down the mountain without burning up my brakes or sliding off the road.

I love my backup camera. It is a really good camera, and I can have it on all the time. I can back into camping spots (in the dark) by myself using just my backup camera. I have it on all the time as it helps me to know what the traffic is like around me when I am driving.

Make sure when you are driving that you are courteous to other drivers, you pay attention to what you are doing, and you know how to handle your rig. This will make your drive the most enjoyable it can be
